Christmas

So today was Christmas. Yup. Time for some Charlie Brown's Christmas... Scrubs style.

mmm Winter

Today marked the first day of winter. my personal favorite season. is it because of the snow? possibly? or christmas? also a good possibility. I thought about it today, and decided that it was actually because of the peppermint stick ice cream that becomes available. peppermint stick ice cream is God's gift to mankind. it's actually what christmas is all about. and you thought it was about Christ... you silly person. peppermint stick ice cream combines two of the greatest sweets: peppermint sticks and ice cream, to form the ultimate alliance that takes your tastebuds on by storm. its quite a religious experience. i encourage you all to indulge frequently in this godly treat. remember, if its condoned by God, its good for you. so that means no fat or calories in the ice cream, you only find those in evil flavors such as chocolate (chocolate also gives you pimples, which are of the devil, so keep that in mind). so basically, winter just wouldn't be the same without peppermint stick ice cream. unfortunately, it, just like winter, is seasonal, so you only get it once a year, what a travesty.

Snow

One might ask "Why is he blogging about snow at 3:30 in the morning?" well the answer is: procrastination. i have a presentation to prepare for and i really do not feel like preparing for it... its the last presentation of the year, and i just want to be done. fin. anyways, onto the topic: snow. i happen to love snow, so i was very excited today when, on my half hour walk across campus to my german class, it went from a few flakes here and there to a full on snow shower. unfortunately it had stopped by the end of class and hadn't really accumulated. then during lunch it started to snow hard again! this continued through lunch, my next class, and my walk home. so i was pretty cheery as i walked into my room... unfortunately, while i took a nap, it stopped snowing. :-( . there was also next to no accumulation. oh well, maybe tomorrow... reasons why snow is better than rain: 1. Snow is quiet. there is no cooler feeling than watching snow fall. because it makes no noise even though it seems like it should be. 2. After a snow, it is actually warmer outside than it was before the snow. some wierd phenomena (chem people should know what i'm talking about) causes this. also because snow reflects the uv rays back up seeing as it is very white. 3. Snow is fun for playing in. you can make snow angels, snow(wo)men, snow forts, have snowball fights... when was the last time you ever heard of people having a rain fight? plus when it snows it means its cold outside and i really like the cold... it makes people's cheeks red which is especially cute on girls. so snow is so much better than rain.

Smiles

So you know when you pass an aquaintance on the street and they recognize you and smile? Well I had that happen to me in a class today... one of my newer friends smiled and I thought I had smiled back. Later tonight we were talking and she goes "so you gave me the wierdest look earlier" and I asked "uhh... when" (thinking it must have been some other time) she then goes on to describe that it had been when she smiled at me... so apparently I can't smile unless I'm laughing... I assured her that it wasn't her, that I'm probably always like that. now its gonna eat at me. dammit. in other news, I picked up an application for Irving's Bagels. according to Caye, it makes her think of the guy that wrote Sleepy Hollow, so now all she can think about is Ichabod Crane serving bagels... I told her I'd dress up for work like that.

*Shrug*

hmm... so maybe we aren't as mature as we think we are as college students. that whole rumors getting out of proportion thing happened again. and we thought we left all this shit in high school. haha huge wake up call. while we managed to work it all out in a timely manner, it got me thinking: college isn't all it's cracked up to be. most of us think we're so mature now that we're in college, but put us back into some situations we had last year and what happens? we revert back to the way we acted in high school. this is twice in two weeks now. the thing is that people let their emotions control them. once emotions get involved, rational thought goes out the window. plus no one wants to let anyone else get the better of them so that leads to even more problems. we all thought that this stuff would just stop when we went to college. that's not true. it won't stop until we can handle conflict in a reasonable way. and i don't see an end to it anytime soon. its sad, but i'm not sure i can be around certain people at home anymore simply because we haven't figured out a way to peacefully co-exist around each other. i wish that it weren't this way, but i guess thats life sometimes. you have to sacrifice for the greater good of the whole.

Women's Volleyball

Penn State Women's Volleyball = amazing! They beat Long Island University tonight 3-0. 30-16, 30-26, 30-14. Long Island was a bunch of eastern european manly, goth looking players. and they weren't very good. Hofstra tomorrow night. they barely squeaked by cornell tonight. so it'll be another breeze for penn state before they head on the road for the rest of the ncaa tournament. good luck girls! and if you make it to omaha... road trip for anyone who wants to go!

hmm...

So I happened across this in my friends blog today... he posted it awhile ago, but I read it today and thought it was interesting... what do you think?

"Religion is born from various psychological desires. The desire to be loved, to belong to something, to feel justified in one's actions, to be rewarded for good deeds and punished for bad ones, the fear of death, the fear of chaos and entropy, the unpleasant idea that nothing really, ultimately, has purpose, etc. Religion can and often does satisfy all of these things, but the price is very high. In my opinion it is too high. One must surrender one's own reason, one's own rationality and objectivity, in other words, essentially, one's sentience. "Faith" is the result, a belief in something absolutely for absolutely no reason, and the belief that such "faith" is a good thing. The belief that faith is a good thing must also be taken on faith, say the religious, and this vicious circular logic is often unbreakable and allows people to see no contradiction in living ferociously for ideas that have no apparent connection with reality. Ironically, surrendering oneself to "faith" is in a way like "selling your soul," giving up all human dignity and "god-given" (no pun intended... actually, pun intended) ability to actually reason for the sake of comfort and security. And aside from the personal cost, it also has great societal cost as well, which I believe does outweigh the admittedly substantial benefits. From the needless and totally irrational persecution of people who engage in "immoral" behaviors (although how they're immoral it is never really explained) to the total, uncompromising, unwavering, unstoppable wars of religion, faith in one's absolute rightness seems to take every major existing problem and make it much, much worse. If you think God is on your side, it is an evil act to consider the possibility that you might be wrong, and that can and often is disasterous."

Amusing

This site amused me today: www.willitblend.com its good for a few minutes of entertainment. For a trip down memory lane go here: www.xanga.com/kanpai . in other news, i'm not getting out of bed until 6 pm today. it'll be t3h sweet.

The Search is Over

Well I finally found a place where I could blog... Xanga just felt to childish and dirty, I'm not a huge fan of Myspace anymore, and Notes on Facebook just aren't my thing. I have a little more creative freedom here... it's nice. I'll keep it around for awhile.
